Process
Task: Design experiential interface idea of our choice.
Skills: UX/UI, Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop
Problem: MAMA keeps their site minimalistic with imagery. They wrote a lot of informational content, which I appreciate, but it messes with the hierarchy. There is too much written content in comparison to images and graphics. This is a music organization and it should feature larger, vibrant graphics and images. They also need to get out into the community that they support and do some promotion. I do not think many people outside of the Madison area music community know that the organization exists or what it does. The site is not the focus but I did take it into consideration.
Current State:
Solution: I want to get MAMA outside with the people and provide a fun activity for all ages. At the same time, we are looking to create an immersive experience, and that gives me a chance to think big. I want to incorporate VR and AR in a way that pushes the imagination but still offer a unique tangible experience that speaks to the mission of MAMA as an org.

Creative Brief

Everyone wants to feel like a superstar (even if they say they don’t) and Madison Area Music Association can help Madison area residents feel like they’re on the big stage with this new promotional game idea. Enter the virtual reality tent and choose your favorite MAMA award winning artist’s song. Then adjust the game settings to the award show year of your liking on the touch screen display. Play with the lighting as long as you want but there will be a line for this game. Battle it out with your friends for the best controller and decide who is singing and playing each instrument.
Once the band has been decided, put on your VR glasses and see the world around you in the tent transform into the glamorous big night of the Madison Area Music Awards. You will see your friends with you on stage as you follow along to the RockBand style play of the game. Players can share their scores on social media and tag the artists, share their location. This makes for a great opportunity to inform the public about MAMA as an organization and spread the word about its different programs outside of the award show like the Clyde Stubblefield scholarship.
People of all ages can play and there are many genres of music to choose from. The game includes some more obscure instruments as well, which should draw interest from those looking to try something new or imagine what it is like for a practiced musician to play it. Some will try to show up local artists by crushing their songs, while others will be left humbled and motivated to improve. I don’t imagine pushing participants to “join” anything. The game should move them in that direction naturally.
